RAW Artwork - Bricks

10 Closed ‘Bricks'

I want my work to engage the viewer emotionally. This is why I use, as my concept, something which I know about from first hand experience and feel passionate about.

It usually operates on two levels, the personal and that of social comment. Though the concept is very important the form is equally so; it is often the interaction between the form and the title which conveys the underlying meaning and can be the vehicle of humour.

I produce/undertake

  • One off sculptures
  • Exhibitions
  • Site specific work
  • Some ‘limited editions’. This really means mark 2, 3 etc of a particular title, though each would be unique, visually.
  • Commissions
  • Work for sale in art galleries

I am an artist first and ceramicist second so I will employ any device and any material that will fulfil my ideas. My inspiration is all the experiences of my life which have interacted with me to make me the person I am now. However, the most influential have probably been my first degree in Biological Sciences, my marriage, and my second degree in ceramics.

My science background has fostered an experimental attitude and I love the challenge of having an idea, or being given a brief, which I then translate into visual form.
